Hydrogen-induced absorption bands in silica core fibers in the infrared region

Exposure of silica fibers to hydrogen results in the growth of absorption bands in the IR region causing optical transmission loss. Causes of the 1.52-μm,1-3 1.45 μm,3,4 and broad 1.24-μm bands are discussed.
