There are multiple versions of the binary phase diagram In-Li, which are exclusively based on experimental data. In addition, several assessments and CALPHAD optimizations have been done. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of contradictions in existing literature, therefore this work aims to clarify these problems with new experimental investigations using thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction and drop solution calorimetry. The binary In-Li phase diagram was revised based on this new data. Highlights are the description of a high-temperature compound HT-InLi 4 from powder data and the new determination of the types of invariant reactions involving (In) and (Li), that both reveal to be peritectic. Furthermore, phases which structures were meanwhile clarified have been introduced into the phase diagram. In total, four phases that were not shown in an equilibrium phase diagram previously were included. This new data and the new phase diagram cannot resolve all, but many, of the contradictions in previous representations. This is essential for future research, e.g. further development of In-containing active materials for Li-ion batteries.
