Comparison of sputum culture in patients with AECOPD in different age

Objective Investigate the comparison of sputum culture in patients with AECOPD in different age.Method Patients with AECOPD admitted into Anhui provincial AnQing municipal hospital from August,2008 to August,2010 were collected and stratified into three groups according to the age:Group A: Younger than 65 years old,Group B: 65-75 years old,Group C: 75-85 years old.Positive rate of sputum culture was compared among three groups before the application of antibiotics.Result Positive sputum culture rate of Group A is 19.0%,multi-drug resistance rate of Group A is 3.4%;positive sputum culture rate of Group B is 39.0%,multi-drug resistance rate of Group B is 14.1%;positive sputum culture rate of Group C is 62.1%,multi-drug resistance rate of Group C is 27.3%;There is statistical difference among the positive sputum culture rate(P0.005)and multi-drug resistance rate(P0.005) of three groups.Conclusion The older the age,the higher the positive rate and multi-drug resistance rate of sputum culture in patients with AECOPD.
