Endocrinological Studies on the Periodic Psychoses

This paper is concerned with the chromatographic studies of urinary 17-KS on the periodic psychoses.Eight fractions were obtained from urine by the chromatographic method. These fractions were identified as follows.Franction I : unknown substance Franction II : isoandrosterone Franction III : dehydroisoandrosterone Franction IV : androsterone Franction V : etiocholone Franction VI+VII : 11 oxy 17-KS Franction VIII : unknown substance 1) 17-KS chromatographic fractions in healthy adult were summarized as follows : androsterone>etiocholanolone (A/E> 1.5) androsterone -1- etiocholanolone>11 oxy 17-KS (A+E/11 oxy 17-KS>1.7) 2) There was no significant difference in the fraction pattern between healthy men and women, or between follicular and luteal phase in healthy women. 3) Periodic psychoses showed various abnormal patterns in following fashions : i) androsterone
