Efficacy of Lansoprazole and Omeprazole Therapy on the Elderly Alcoholic Peptic Ulcer

Objective To observe the efficacy of lansoprazole and omeprazole in treatment of alcoholic peptic ulcer in the elderly.Methods Ninety elderly patients with alcoholic peptic ulcer were selected from June 2010 to June 2011 in Zhongshan Triangle Hospital and divided according to the random number table into treatment group with 45 patients-treated oral lansoprazole 30mg everyday,and control group with 45 patients-treated with omeprazole,20mg every day.The eradication rate of Helicobacter pylori(Hp),the healing rate of peptic ulcer and adverse reactions were observed.Results At the 1st and the 7th day after giving medication,abdominal pain disappearance rate in the treatment group were 84.4% and 95.6%,and were 55.6% and 82.2% in the control group,there were significant differences between the two groups(χ2 = 8.942,4.050,P 0.05).By endoscopy,the ulcer healing rate of the two groups group was 80.0% and 55.6% respectively,the total effective rate of thetwo groups was 97.8% and 80.0% respectively.Peptic ulcerhealing after treatment were compared between the two groups,it was better in the treatment group than that in the control group(Z =-2.854,P 0.05).The H pylori negative rate in the two groups was 88.9% and 71.1%,respectively.There were significant difference between the groups(χ2 = 4.444,P 0.05).No adverse effects were observed in all patients.Conclusion Lansoprazole and omeprazole are both safe and effective in treating alcoholic peptic ulcer in the elderly,while lansoprazole is better than omeprazole in improvingsymptoms,curing ulcers,and eradicating Hp.
