An inorganic cerium based adsorbent was developed on the basis of the research of adsorption of fluoride on cerium oxide hydrate. Some experimental results of adsorption of fluoride on cerium ferrous adsorbent (CFA) show that CFA has a fast adsorption rate and a large adsorption capacity, adsorption equilibrium follows Freundlich isotherm, and that the low pH value promotes fluoride removal. Some physical chemistry characteristics of CFA were experimentally determined, fluoride removal mechanism was explored, and the result shows that hydroxyl group plays an important role in the fluoride removal.
