Some Specialties of the System for Flushing the New Sewers of the City of Mexico

In 1885 the writer entered the service of the City of Mexico as Chief Engineer, and was at once instructed by the Alderman in charge of Public Works, the Engineer, Manue1 M. Contreras, to study the proper construction of the sewers, as he was desirous of modifying the old system of construction by establishing modern methods. A study of the drainage of the city was undertaken, and it was found that the sewers. consisting of an extensive network, had many defects.
