This paper attempts to consider engineering education in the decade ahead and beyond, particularly in relation to the changing economic, social and technological environment in which engineers are likely to practise. The authors sensitise readers to the pressures and realities that will increasingly characterise the milieu in which future engineers will function and show how these have important implications for engineering education. The mechanisms by which engineering educators may accommodate these pressures are also addressed.
