Discharge of Granular Materials through Adjacent Orifices and Multi-orifice Plates

Experiments with pairs of adjacent orifices and multi-orifice plates have shown that mean flow rate per orifice is a function of the distance between two orifices or the number of active orifices in a multi-orifice plate. Results obtained with sand and rape seed are presented and it is suggested that the observed behaviour is related to changes in the bulk density field in the vicinity of adjacent orifices.
