Spline Function: Introduction

Abstract Spline functions are an approach to the smoothing of bivariate data (a spline is a term for a flexible strip of metal or rubber used by a draftsman to draw curves). Splines are polynomials within intervals of the x ‐variable that are connected across different values of x . In this article, the theory behind such functions is described.
