Objective:To observe the effect of Shengyang Yiwei Decoction on symptoms and on serum 5-hydroxy tryptamine(5-HT)level in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-D).Methods:A prospective,randomize-controlled trial was conducted.Eighty IBS-D patients were equally randomized into two groups.The treatment group received Shengyang Yiwei Decoction and the control group was treated with conventional western medicine.The course of treatment lasted 4 weeks.The clinical symptoms were observed and serum level of 5-HT was detected before and after treatment.After treatment,the clinical effect was evaluated.Results:The total effective rate was 84.62% in the treatment group,and was 63.16% in the control group,the difference being significant(P 0.05).Serum 5-HT level in both groups after treatment differed from that before treatment(P 0.05),but the difference between the two groups after treatment was insignificant(P 0.05).Conclusion:Shengyang Yiwei Decoction is effective on relieving clinical symptoms and decreasing the expression of 5-HT in IBS-D patients.
