Outcomes of treating refractory chylous leakage after neck dissection with somatostatin

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of treating refractory chylous leakage after neck dissection with somatostatin.Methods Sixteen patients with refractory chylous leakage after neck dissection were divided into two groups.The patients in group B were treated with conventional treatment of local compression,drainage with negative pressure and low fat diet.The patients in group A were treated with additional somatostatin 6 mg in 500 ml normal saline,which was infused intravenously for 24 hours.The clinical efficacy was compared between two groups.ResultsThe close rate of cyhle fistula of group A was 100%,which was higher than 50% of group B(P0.05).The hospital stay of group A was(11.2±4.4) d,which was shorter than(16.7±4.8) d of group B(P0.05).Conclusion Somatostatin is effective in elevating the close rate of cyhle fistula and shortening the hospital stay in the patients with refractory chylous effusion after the operation of lymphonodi cervicales.
