Clinical Observation of Combined Acupuncture and Paroxetine in Treating 33 Cases of Post-stroke Depression

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and medicine in the treatment of post-stroke depression(PSD).Methods 33 cases were randomized into treatment group in which 17 cases were treated with acupuncture and paroxetine,and control group in which 16 cases were treated with paroxetine alone,with a course of 6 weeks.Results The total effective rate was 88.2% in the treatment group and 62.5% in the control group,with a statistically significant difference between them(P0.01);after treatment,the hamilton depression scale(HAMD)scores were obviously reduced in both groups(P0.01),with a more significant reduction in the treatment group HAMD than in the control group(P0.01).Conclusion Combined acupuncture and medicine has excellent results in the treatment of PSD,which is worth of clinical use.
