Relationship between probiotics and oral diseases

Human oral cavity is a complicated microecosystem with thousands of different kinds of bacteria in the healthy mouth environment. The disorder of oral flora will lead to oral diseases, such as dental caries and periodontal disease, which perplex the patients and clinicians for a long time. Traditional prevention and control methods of oral diseases have many drawbacks, so the new treatment of lactobacillus is getting noticed. Lactobacillus is a widely used probiotic, which plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance in intestinal tract as well as in oral cavity. The recent studies on the mechanism and application prospect of oral lactobacillus are summarized in this article. Key words: Mouth diseases; Lactobacillus; Oral microecosystem
