Objective
To study the effect of laryngopharyngeal reflux on vocal cord granulomas.
Methods
The 42 cases with vocal cord granulomas proved pathologically underwent 24-hour dual probe pH monitoring and evaluated by RSI (reflux symptom index) and RFS (reflux finding score), All patients had been operated on and follow-up on 15 days、3 mounths、6 mounths after operation. The 29 cases were treated by proton pump inhibitors.
Results
positive RSI was found in 22 cases and positive RFS was found in 26 cases. 29 of 42 patients (69.00%) showed positive pH monitoring in laryngopharynx, 26 patients who were diagnosed with laryngopharyngeal reflux recurrented after operation, the overall response rate were 15.38%、69.23%、92.30% on 15 days、3 mounths、6 mounths after treated by proton pump inhibitors. There was significant difference in the rate of positive response (P<0.05).
Conclusion
The laryngopharyngeal reflux may be a risk factor in the development of vocal cord granulomas, we should be careful to select the best therapeutic options.
