We read with great interest the Article by Marlijne de Graaf and colleagues that was published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology.1 The multicentre study explored the influence of expectancy versus actual gluten intake on symptoms in individuals with non-coeliac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). Their findings suggested a significant effect of combined expectancy and actual gluten intake on gastrointestinal symptoms, indicating a potential nocebo effect in which negative expectations about gluten might exacerbate symptoms.
