Abstract Aluminum ceramic slurry coating systems have been utilized in the aerospace industry for more than 35 years, providing corrosion protection and heat oxidation resistance to turbine engine components and hardware. Similar coating system technology has been in use on under hood and exhaust system components and hardware in the automotive industry for nearly 20 years. These coating systems have provided a high level of corrosion performance in specifically unique operating environments. Recognizing that offshore atmospheric conditions present a particularly harsh environment, a coating system based on the aluminum ceramic slurry coating has been developed to provide better performance in offshore atmospheric environments than can be achieved with conventional barrier type coatings. This paper will present comparative test data of the aluminum ceramic slurry coating system performance as compared to the organic barrier type coatings. Salt spray performance, accelerated weathering performance, cyclic salt spray/accelerated weathering performance, torque-tension and wear resistance will be compared.
