Use of Clomipramine for treatment of behavioural disorders in 14 cats - Efficacy and side-effects

Clomipramine hydrochloride was used to treat 14 cats presented fur various behavioural problems. It was completely successful in eliminating the problem in six cats, and caused partial resolution of the problem in the remainder. Side-effects were reported in 10 cats, and included drowsiness, pupil dilation, and urinary retention. Burmese and Siamese/Oriental cars were over represented when compared to the general pet cat population. The most common anxiety-provoking stimulus was separation from the owner and not inter-cat conflict as a source.
