Specific features of tree species under the conditions of technogenic landscapes have been studied on the basis of phytomass structure analysis of the two birch species (Betula pubescens Ehrh. and Betula pendula Roth) found on the ash grounds of Reftinskaya GRES (hydroelectric power station). Morphometric and production parameters of the above birch species growing on the ash substrate and in forest cenoses of the same age have been compared. Specific differences of the phytomass structure are described. It is concluded that at the given age period the birch growth and development are to be determined by edaphic conditions, ecological properties of the birch species and the level of competition load in the plantation.
