The high-power ultrasonic dispersion technique was studied using laser-synthesized SiC powder and organic liquids. The influence of several important process variables on dispersion was evaluated quantitatively. Longer exposures caused a coarsening of the agglomerates after an initial size reduction. These results were interpreted by a heuristic kinetic model, which describes the behavior of agglomerates exposed to an ultrasonic probe.
