and wavelength of the perturbations in the plate surface is examined. Very little growth in amplitude occurs if either the initial amplitude or the wavelength is sufficiently small. The growth rate increases monotonically with increasing initial amplitude. There appears to exist a wavelength of maximum growth, such that the growth rate increases rapidly with wavelength up to this wavelength, but then decreases slowly as the wavelength is further increased.
