In this paper, the results of the experiments aimed at producing artificial anhydrite from gypsum and the compressive strength characteristics of anhydrite III produced are presented. The experiments were carried out on the samples taken from Beypazari Gypsum Field. The minimum calcining temperatures to convert gypsum into plaster and anhydrite were found. The effects of factors such as waiting time in oven, sizes of gypsum and anhydrite pieces on the characteristic of anhydrite III produced were investigated. The compressive strength of anhydrite III, which was mixed with water and hardened, was compared with those of concrete and natural anhydrite. Anhydrite III was also tested whether it can be replaced with concrete used in pack walls of gate roadways
