Liver failure is associated with a high morbidity and mortality rate and liver failure become the life-threatening disease.As the liver has an enormous potential to regenerate,artificial liver support system may allow patients with liver failure to be bridged to recovery.According to the different nature,artificial liver support system is divided into nonbioartificial liver system,biological artificial liver and hybrid artificial liver.Recently,non-bioartificial liver system has been used widely,but there are a lot of problems needed to be studied and resolved.Therefore,in this review we summarize artificial liver support systems about the functions,status of clinical applications,problems and developments.
