Correlation analysis about CA125 and CEA with ovarian cancer

Objective To analyse the clinical value of the serum CA125 and carcino embryonic antigen(CEA) combined detection in the patients with ovarian cancer through the detection of 2 kinds of tumor marker concentrations: serum carbohydrate antigen CA125 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Methods The levels of CA125 and CEA in 23 patients with ovarian cancer, in 37 patients with benign ovarian tumor and in 50 healthy controls were measured by fully automated chemiluminescence immunoassay. Statistical analyses were performed with t test. Results The serum levels and positive rates of CA125 and CEA in patients with ovarian cancer were (278.43±182.27) U/mL and 73.92%, (8.49±8.37) ng/mL and 17.4% respectively, but those in patients with benign ovarian tumor were(23.75±13.59) U/mL and 18.92%, (3.43±1.48) ng/mL and 0.0% respectively, and those with healthy controls were (12.46±7.65) U/mL and 0.0%, (2.21±1.03) ng/mL and 0.0% respectively.The serum levels and positive rates of CA125 and CEA in patients with ovarian cancer were significantly higher than those with benign ovarian tumor and those with healthy controls patients, And the differences were statistically significant (P 0.05). Conclusion The correlation about serum CA125 with ovarian cancer is ideal, while that with CEA and ovarian cancer is not ideal; so serum CA125 is a more reliable, the ideal tumor marker for screening ovarian cancer, and it has good diagnostic value. CEA has a certain reference value in ovarian cancer , but the positive rate is lower. So CA125 and CEA combined detection in diagnosis of ovarian cancer without significant clinical value.
