Sepsis has a high morbidity, mortality and therapeutic cost, which is an important cause of death in critically ill patients and the mechanisms of its pathophysiology remain obscure.Recent research indicated, the increased microvascular permeability is the key factor in development of sepsis, while vascular endothelial growth factor is the key of controling the vascular permeability and potential factor of increasing inflammatory related microvascular permeability.Vascular endothelial growth factor levels are elevated during sepsis early stage, and it caused the increasing of capillary permeability and capillary leak, finally aggravating inflammation. The capillary leak are often occurred in sepsis patients.Vascular endothelial growth factor as a cell factor,it is exist organism wide-ranging,and it have hand in many diseases processes. In this article we will expatiate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor in the pathogenesis of sepsis.
