Analysis of picosecond and femtosecond pulse dye laser amplifiers

When dealing with the ultrashort pulse (picosecond to femtosecond duration) amplification by dye laser amplifiers, the rate equations fail to explain the light-matter interaction adequately as the pulse duration approaches the phase coherence time of the amplifying medium. In our research, a semiclassical model was developed and used for such short pulse amplification processes. The pulse evolution, pulse energy gain, pulse duration and other parameters were investigated. Solutions were compared with results based on the rate equation treatment, i.e., without considering the phase memory effects.
