AI in Professional Development for Language Teachers

In this chapter, we looked at how AI is set to revolutionize the career growth of language teachers, particularly at tertiary institutions. As technology slowly creeps into learning institutions, AI rises as a shoo-in to heighten the skill and proficiency level of language teachers, specifically for tutors of adult learners. We discussed through previous literature that several of the programmed applications using Information technology, such as Learning platforms, paraphrasing, networks or algorithms, language processing, Quilbot Grammar checker systems, Chatbots, Language Translation services, Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Readlang, Grammarly, Learning Management Systems, Chat GPT and Teachers only needs and struggles are met. We also investigate how continuous learning is made possible through feedback mechanisms, streamlining routine processes, and implementing computer-assisted language learning and innovative teaching methods of AI's potential consequences and opportunities for teacher professionalism, lesson effectiveness, and the future of language teaching.
