In general, a is one of the most efficient types
of roof trusses.
It saves the amount of steel, construction time, and labor
required for constructing a roof truss, because it is a simple
frame truss made of a rolled steel produced in a plant and
prefabricated on construction site.
In spite of such advantages, a beam-tie truss has not been widely
used due to the problems of analyzing a statically indeterminate
structure and estimating section sizes, and due to a complex
design process.
This research develops the equations and process for calculating
allowable load of main frame and required area of tie-rod. Using
this, the effective section sizes can be easily estimated.
