Solvent effects on photo-sensitized oxidation reactions of cyanine dyes used by DVD-R disk

This paper reported the photo oxidation of cyanine dyes with different conjugated methin length in different kinds of solvents. Results showed that the reaction constants of benzoxazole in different solvents are mainly due to the DN (Donor Number) of the solvents (the polarity of the solvents). It also indicated that different solvents influenced the photooxidation quantum yield of benzoxazole, the greater the electron acceptance ability of the solvent , the higher the quantum yield.
