Aim To study the effects of epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)on rats with pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin. Methods Rats were randomly divided into 6 groups:normal group, pulmonary fibrosis group, prednisolone group and three EGCG treated groups.Rats models were reproduced by injecting bleomycin through trachea. On days 7,14,28 after bleomycin administration, some rats in each group were killed and the lungs were harvested for histopathological studies, and bioche-mical indicator determination. Results EGCG depressed collagen deposition, decreased lung index of pulmonary fibrosis rats(P0.05,P0.01) and increased the levels of SOD,T-AOC(P0.05,P0.01).EGCG could reduce pulmonary pathological damage. Conclusion EGCG can inhibit pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin.
