The theories about context and meaning are discussed in this paper and a series of examples are given to illustrate the dependence of understanding of language on context.The author also points out that reading is not only a comprehensive skill but also a process of meaning reconstruction.The theory of context plays an important role in English reading.Therefore,students should be taught to read using context clues.This paper puts forward some strategies on constructing a contextualized reference framework to make students more aware of context so as to improve their English reading skills and English comprehensive application skills.
