An Improved Synthesis of Bazedoxifene Acetate

An improved process for Bazedoxifene acetate1 is described. This process features chlorination of an alcohol 8, a key intermediate, amenable to large scale operations by using HCl gas instead of thionyl chloride. In addition to this, an alternate synthetic route for 1 is also disclosed.
