22.1: Invited Paper: Single mode Red, Green and Blue Laser Diodes and their Applications for HMD, AR/VR Glasses

In recent years, Laser Diodes have been used in various applications. The first real application started with the release of compact disc(CD) players/digital versatile disks (DVD) players. Since blue and green lasers have been developed, and laser diodes have begun to be used for various display applications such as pico‐projector and Laser TV. In particular, recently, it is expected to be applied to head mount display(HMD) and Augmented reality(AR)/virtual reality(VR) glass applications as one of the new applications of single mode laser. This paper shows the laser diode and applications that have been developed so far, the trends of light sources for HMD and AR/VR glass applications that are expected in the future, the issues when using red green and blue laser diodes, and how to solve them.
