Objective To study the correlation between the clinical evolution and the mitogen-stimulated production of in- terleukin-2(IL-2) and interleukin-4(IL-4) in vitro of peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) in patients with psoriasis vul- garis. Methods The production of IL-2 was analyzed with bicactivity assay. The production of IL-4 was assayed by enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) test. For comparison, PBMCs from 12 healthy controls were tested equally. Results The IL-2 production of patients with psoriasis was more decreased than these of the healthy contrls(P 0. 01 ), especially in patients with static psoriasis. The production of IL-4 was inhibited in patients with active psoriasis(P 0. 01 ), while it became normal in patients with static psoriasis(P 0. 05). Conclusion There is a possible correlation between the clinical evolution of psoriasis and the production of IL-2 and IL-4 of PBMCs.
