A fluorescence method was developed for the determination of melamine based on its enhancing effect on the fluorescence intensity of fluorescein. The fluorescence intensity at a fixed concentration range was linear with the added concentration of melamine. The linear equation of the method was ΔI=178.2ρ(10-6 g/L)(r=0.9977) with the linear range of 5.0×10-7~1.0×10-5 g/L and the relative standard deviation was 1.9%(n=10).The detection limit was 9.85×10-8 g/L.This method can be applied to the determination of melamine in formula and milk, and the mean recoveries were 95.1% and 95.8%,respectively.
