Objective:To determine the human whole blood folate level by an established High Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) method in order to accumulate basic data for setting the whole blood folate criteria for human folate nutrition status. Methods: Whole blood samples from 495 high school students(aged from 17 to 21)were collected and analyzed by an HPLC method with fluorescence detection. Results: The average whole blood folate level for male high school students was 222nmol/L(n=246),and the average whole blood folate level for female high school students was 218nmol/L(n=249).No significant difference was found between the male and female students in whole blood folate level. Conclusion: The male and female students have similar whole blood folate level distribution pattern.
