Post-stroke Depression and Neurogenesis in Hippocampus

Post-stroke depression(PSD)was one of the common complications of cerebrovascular disease.The volumn of hippocampus in PSD patients was decreased in neuroimaging.Recently,the phenomenon of neurogenesis in hippocampus provided a new explanation for the change of size of hippocampus.This paper investigated the relationship between PSD and neurogenesis in hippocampus by reviewing the neurogenesis in hippocampus related to depression and stroke.And,for the therapy of PSD,we discussed the possible methods correlated to promoting neurogenesis in hippocampus with regulating the expression of neurotrophic factors,the number of monoamine transmitters and signal transduction in cAMP-(cAMP response element binding protein(CREB) pathway in neuron.
