            摘要
            
            The effects of vertical integration upon the height of exit barriers are explored using a sample of 192 declining and non-declining businesses. New measures of vertical integration strategy dimensions are developed to capture these relationships. Broadly ranging vertical strategies, particularly those involving high degrees of upstream integration, were found to increase exit barriers significantly.
