Abstract Manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ) shows high capacity but suffers from rapid capacity and poor rate capability, which limits its wide application in lithium‐ion batteries. In this work, we successfully load MnO 2 nanosheets on the surface of hollow carbon spheres via polymerization and liquid‐phase reaction method. In this hybrid structure, the presence of hollow carbon spheres could improve the electronic conductivity and restrain the volume change of MnO 2 at the same time. As a result, the C/MnO 2 composites exhibit high initial capacity of 1519 mAh g −1 at the current density of 0.2 C. Moreover, the C/MnO 2 composites show high capacity of 506 mAh g −1 after 300 cycles at high current density of 2 C. This work provides a new perspective for improving the metal oxides anode materials.
