Objective To research the origin and histologic characteristics of nail bed and nail plate,approach the feasibility and safety of primary repairing of nail bed defect by fault nail bed free grafting,and to evaluate postoperative finger function.Methods Summarizing primary repairing of traumatic nail bed defect by fault nail bed free grafting of hallux in 15 patients 20 fingers between August 2003 and August 2005.Results Every patient got follow-up,from 7 to 26 months.All grafts survived and all nail beds grew evenly,without obvious deformity.The soft tissue of fingertips was protected and the dorsal rotation of soft tissue of finger pulps was prevented.The modification of nail beds was reserved.Conclusion Fault nail bed free grafting accord with the growth and development rule of nail bed and nail body,reserving fine exterior adapt to develop in grass-roots hospitals and basic function of nail plate,simplifying the operation,and deserved to be applied.
