Efficacy of Fiberform and Bifico in Treatment of Functional Constipation in Children

Objective To study the efficacy and safety of fiberform(testa triticum tricum purif)and bifico(live combined bifidobacte-rium,lactobacillus and enterococcus powder) in the treatment of functional constipation(FC) in children. Methods A total of 98 children with FC were chosen for study from kindergartens,primary schools and outpatient in Shenzhen Futian from Jan.2009 to Mar.2011.All the subjects were randomly divided into combination group(n=36),fiberform group(n=32) and control group(n=30),and patients in 3 groups respectively received basic therapy+fiberform+bifico(combination group),basic therapy+fiberform(fiberform group),basic therapy only(control group).The basic therapy included antisecosis,defecate method training,moderate water and moderate exercise.The treatment efficiency and the relapse rate in 3 groups after 2 weeks and 4 weeks were observed. Results The effective rate was 91.67% in combination group,68.75% in fiberform group and 43.33% in control group,respectively after treatment for 2 weeks,there were significant differences among the 3 groups(Pa0.05,0.01);and the relapse rate was 5.56% in combination group,21.88% in fiberform group,30.00% in control group at 2 weeks after therapy,the relapse rate in combination group was significantly lower than that in control group(P0.05);16.67% in combination group,40.63% in fiberform group,46.67% in control group,4 weeks after discontinue therapy,the relapse rate in combination group was significantly lower than that in fiberform group and control group(Pa0.05).All the frequencies were measured based on stool frequency,characteristics and clinical conditions.There was no side-effect in treatment groups. Conclusions Fiberform and bifico is obviously better,safe and low relapse rate in treatment of functional constipation in children.
