The synthesis and design of effective medication delivery systems are of essential significance for health care. Chitosan is a semi-synthetic biopolymer got from chitin that is the second most bountiful biopolymer. Numerous matrices created from chitosan have been broadly utilized for biomaterials and drug delivery systems. Antimicrobial activity, biocompatibility, nonallergenicity, and biodegradability are invaluable properties of chitosan; in addition, chitosan has additionally displayed healing properties. A few properties can be potentiated by utilizing the chitosan to deliver chitosan-based bionanocomposites. In this sense, issues related to the development of chitosan-based bionanocomposites in terms of drug delivery are discussed. It also discussed briefly the structure, properties of chitosan and preparation/modification, and techniques of chitosan bionanocomposites.
