Abstract : Transmission electron diffraction data have indicated that the pyrocarbon films deposited on pyrolytic boron nitride consist of a mixture of crystalline and amorphous carbon phases. The crystalline structures appear to be of two allotropic modifications of carbon: graphite and carbyne. These carbyne crystals were produced during the deposition of pyrocarbon on pyrolytic boron nitride rods at a moderate temperature and pressure by the decomposition of methane.
