Effect of basicity and Al_2O_3 content on viscosity and melting temperature of mold flux of medium carbon steel in wide and heavy plate continuous casting

The viscosity and melting temperature changes of mold flux of medium carbon steel in wide and heavy plate continuous casting were studied under slag basicity of 0.92,1.0,1.14,and Al2O3 mass fraction of 4.3%,5%,6.1% under slag basicity of 1.0.The test results show that,with the slag basicity increased from 0.92 to 1.14,the viscosity of the mold flux reduces gradually,and the hemisphere temperature of the mold flux rises rapidly.With the increase of Al2O3 content in the slag system from 4.3% to 6.1%,the viscosity of the mold flux is reduced gradually,which ensured good lubrication characteristics of the mold flux.The effect of Al2O3 content increase on the hemisphere temperature of the mold flux is not very intense,helping to reduce the melting temperature of the mold flux.
