Contingency of self-esteem refers to a mental characteristic that self-esteem is influenced by one's life events.The related theories and studies of this field have primarily focused on the two aspects:global contingency of self-esteem and domain specific contingency of self-esteem,which discuss the benefits and costs of pursuing high self-esteem.Suggestions for future research such as the relationship between global contingent self-esteem and domain specific contingent self-esteem,and the nature and its adjustability of the contingent self-esteem are proposed.
