Objective To investigate the value of procalcitonin(PCT) in early diagnosis of severe neonatal infections.Methods We divided 74 neonates into three groups,which were severe infection group(34 cases),local infection group(25 cases) and control group(15 cases).Serum PCT,high-sensitivity C-reaction protein(hs-CRP) and white blood cell count(WBC) were obtained in 24 hours after admission.Compared with their sensitivity,and specificity and analysised receiver operating characteristic curves(ROC curve).Results The levels of PCT and hs-CRP were significantly different between the severe infection group and the local infection group.Receiver operating characteristic curves were drawn and areas under these curves were calculated.For the assessment of infections,the sensitivity,the specificity and the accuracy of PCT was higher than hsCRP.Conclusion Compare with hsCRP and WBC,the serum PCT is better at sensitivity and specificity in early diagnosis of neonatal severe infections.PCT is an important maker in early diagnosis of neonatal severe infections.
