Aiming at the thermodynamic problems in the process of chromium ore smelting reduction and direct alloying for stainless steel, the theoretical analysis and calculations have been carried out by thermodynamic diagram and isothermal equation.A theoretic basis for the thermodynamic feasibility of steel composition readjustment by chromium ore direct alloying in converter steelmaking process was afforded. The results show that smelting reduction and direct alloying by chromium ore in the converter are feasible, and externally applied reducing agent is indispensable;the starting reduction temperature of Cr_2O_3 in molten slag seems to increase with the increase of Cr_2O_3 and the slag basicity;when chromium oxide exists as CrO in the slag, the starting reduction temperature is lower than that of Cr_2O_3;the less the FeO content in molten slag, the lower the starting reduction temperature of Cr_2O_3.
