Vascular dysfunction is frequently observed in the brains of individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The pathological findings include amyloid accumulation within vessel walls, cerebral hypoperfusion, and capillary degeneration. Pericytes, specialized cells that surround brain capillaries, play a critical role in stabilizing the vasculature, forming the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and regulating cerebral blood flow. In AD, pericyte loss has been reported, leading to chronic disruption of the BBB.
