Studies on Chalcogenide Films.

Three research tasks related to chalcogenide films have been studied. The first task deals with the thermal sensitivity of reflection peaks of narrow band reflection filters. It has been shown that a significant shift in the reflection peak can be expected in the reflection filters due to a change in temperature. The shift could be minimized by modifying film compositions. The dn/dT (Temperature coefficient of refractive index) has been identified as an important factor of the thermal sensitivity parameters. It has been suggested that in addition to bulk composition, impurities play and important role in determining the dn/dT. The second task reports the experimental data and discussion related to the effects of aging on the refractive index of As2S3 films. It has been shown that the refractive index increases by approximately 4% due to an aging below the glass transition temperature. The third task evaluates a relationship between the deposition rate and stoichiometry of As2S3 films. It has been observed that as the deposition rate increases, the films become sulfur deficient.
