摘要
Aiming at the problems of low optical efficiency, high power consumption, large thickness, and high cost existing in traditional direct LED backlights, this study proposes an ultra‐low power consumption glass‐based direct Mini‐/Micro‐LED (MLED) backlight and LCD system. This system uses white‐light MLEDs as the backlight source. The MLED light transmitted through a high‐light‐transmittance encapsulation layer. A Micro‐Lens Array (MLA) is utilized to converge the emitted light into light spot arrays that corresponds one‐to‐one with the Aperture Area (AA) of the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Panel TFT. It completely eliminates functional film layers such as diffusers and prism films used in traditional MLED backlights. By optimizing the matching relationship between the MLED emission angle and MLA parameters (aperture, arch height), the overall performance of the backlight is significantly improved. Simulation results show that the optical efficiency of this BLU can reach to 90% and the optical efficiency after TFT is increased more than 75%. At the same time, the thickness and costs are reduced significantly, and the dependence on the supply chain is reduced. This system can be widely applied in fields with strict requirements on brightness, power consumption, and thickness, such as automotive displays, VR/MR, and wearable displays.
